Accommodation Wizard uses the power of the Internet to quickly and efficiently find the best place to stay.
In spite of extensive research we have not been able to find any commonly accepted definitions for the various types of accommodation.
While there is clearly a need for standardisation, we cannot speak for the accommodation industry as a whole and therefore offer the following purely as a general guideline.
:: Guest House ::
A home in a normal residential area where
the owners (who usually live in the house) have one or more rooms for rental. Accommodation
offering a personal touch and a good way to meet the locals. Also sometimes known as a "B and B"
(bed and breakfast) although quite often other meals are on offer by prior arrangement.
:: Self Catering ::
While this accommodation may be on offer at
a private home it is often found in commercial premises (blocks of flats for example). The
units are equipped to allow guests to prepare meals and may or may not offer bedding. In some
cases a cleaning service is offered. The owner/manager is more remote.
:: Hotel - Private ::
Usually relatively small and often personally
managed by the owners. This accommodation offers a more personal and intimate hotel service.
Typically has a dining room/restuarant offering various meals, a bar service, and possibly room
service.
:: Hotel - Chain ::
The focus here is on providing a standard
and consistent accommodation experience. Whether the hotel is in New York, Johannesburg, or
Sydney, a professional service is provided in a familiar environment.
